Eh, I'm sorry, I misread. I put 500K in the body, not the subject. Sorry...

I'm thinking of signing up, but I'd be writing various fanfic pieces if I did. My question is this: If we write fanfiction - say a novel-length and various shorter pieces - are we allowed to post what we write to fanfic archives/LJ comms, etc., as we go along? Or do we keep everything we write for NaNoWriYe quiet until the year is up?

Also, if we write lots of smaller pieces rather than one giant novel (I'd like to do 500k), does it all count towards our final total? In other words, whatever we write, no matter what it is, will count as long as we declare it to our club mods (or whatever they're called)?

You are free to post whatever you want whenever you want. Because it is fanfic (and I assume you are not going to pursue publishing) you don't have to worry about first print rights.

It all counts. At the end of the year, just combine it all into one gigantic text document and send it to your club president.

We should have a podcast. :D

Just throwing it out there. I <3 to listen to writing podcasts. They really get me into the mood for writing; I loved NaNoWriMo's... Also, Mur Laferty's "I Should Be Writing" is great.

I've never heard any podcasts, let alone writing ones. Could you post some sample links we could check out?

Just thought of a suggestion...

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm always looking for icons that have writerly themes to it, or just have something to do with writing. I'm not great with graphics, but maybe make a post to see if people would be willing to make icons for this NaNoWriYe in a community or even just a journal, and then there could be a section on the message board where we could update people about new icons? Just thought I'd ask. I found one community for NaNo icons but they're for 2005 and they're for NaNoWriMo.

Just a thought. ^_^

Icons, Banners, Oh My!

Check out the main forums. There are several people who have made banners and icons for the various clubs and the entire WriYe group. We're always looking for even more goodies though ... and everyone has their own interpretation in graphics. Please join us at the forums (http://nanowriye06.suddenlaunch3.com/) and throw out some great new ideas. :)

Er, I was actually talking about Livejournal icons, not necessarily icons for the message board. I just thought that having LJ icons saying "I'm a participant of NaNoWriYe!" and then give their word count and goal or something would be cool since my guess is that a lot of the NaNoWriYe participants are LJ users.

Most of the Icons can be used in both places. And, very little activity is happening here on the LJ; it's not practical in handling close to 500 members through LiveJournal. Feel free to check out the forums though, there may be people there interested in LJ-only icons.

I'm looking right now at the forum (all ready a member :) ) and I'm not really seeing a place that would have something about graphics...am I just not seeing a thread or something?

The last time I saw an icon dedicated thread was in January, but I would have ignored anything newer just because I'm not a graphics person. (I'm learning though.)

It might be best to try an updated thread to get some renewed interest in graphics creation. You could post something either on your club forum or in either the feedback or general boards.

Question regarding Deadline
(Anonymous)
2006-04-24 02:57 pm UTC (link)
Hi,

maybe you have already explained this elsewhere, so sorry if I am asking on something already answered:

Is Dec 10 a deadline for everyone or shall I have my own deadline based on the date I register?
I am asking because in the first case, I would like to join the 250K club, while in the other case, I would aim for half a million.

Thanks

Veronika

Can we still register for the club now? Because of the Taiwan earthquake and all, we found out about nanowriye a little late and me and my friends sign up later. But still no response from the club. I wondered if the registration is closed.....

Hi
This is my first time doing NaNoWriYe. Been writing fanfiction since aug this year (3 complete stories, 1 WIP just about 200k words total so far) I am going to be writing a mixture of fanfic which i have seen from previous thread that i can post on my normal sites. but what can i do with the original stuff? Do want people to read it. Would like it published or at least still have the chance for being published. what advise can you give me please?
Thanks

I'm trying to figure out how many words I'm trying for. The big question if, how to count them. My writing style is to write a braindump draft, then to reorganize everything and write another draft, then to write another draft ... as the draft number increases, the amount of original new text gradually decreases and the amount edited from the previous versin increases ... but what I'm working on is a novel (currently a braindump draft of about 130 pages, although parts have reached third draft stage -- and at least half of that is new writing. Well, the other half is a mix of new writing, cut and paset, and rewrite the cut-and-paste.

Nop I can push myself to write 30000 words of braindump a month, without the feeling that I'm pushing my creativity too much. Doing that is quite feasible during nanowrimo (where I can reach 50000 words at the price of about 20000 drivel if I feel like wasting my time). But the thing also needs to be rewritten a few times, editied, revised, what have you.

Are we counting finished text? Are we counting first draft? Are we counting every draft? If it's finished text, it won't arrive as a monthly quota. The novel may meander through several drafts and none of it reach the finished state until another year has passed. If it's first draft, the club provides no incentive to actually finish anything. If all ther drafts count, it's going to be hard to distinguish clearly what's new and what's old and what's inbetween.

Just what does get counted?
