The OFFICIAL FAQs

Have questions? Well, we've got answers. (We hope.)

Is this like National Novel Writing Month?
Yes, except for our 'clubs' and we're much more lenient.

Are the novels going to be verified or are we going on an honor system?
They will be verified. At the end of the month you will email a text document to your club president as an attachment along with your username.

But then won't you be able to read my story?
We won't. But, we're all writers too, and we understand how that might worry you. When you get to the end of the month and you're ready to verify, make a copy of the file, and then change all of the letters to a, or scramble them all using the search and replace functions in your word processor.

*Note: It's been brought to our attention that some people have found their stories to be 6-700 words under the original count after scrambling. We're looking into what causes this. If you have time, you may want to write a few hundred words over your goal just in case.

Is there going to be a 'Winners' List?
Winners can be updated by the Club President on the Club pages.

Are there going to be award icons?
Yes.

Can we work on more than one novel?
Yes. Your total word count can, and most likely will, consist of several novels and short stories

What exactly is allowed?
New words in novels and short stories in all fiction genres, including fanfiction. Nonfiction, poems, lyrics, etc... don't count (unless you work them into your story). ;) If you continue a Work in Progress, the words you've written before January 1st DO NOT COUNT.

Can I co-write my novel with someone?
No.

Can I start early/work on a work-in-progress?
Yes, but all words written before January 1st don't count.

I'm participating in another writing group. Can the novel/short story I write for that be part of my word count?
Yes. (Unless the director of that group has objections, of course.)

I just went to the forums and they did something really weird!
Email us at admins@nanowriye.com and we can try and fix it.

Are there going to be progress bars?
We are working on it, but at this point in time, we are unsure. However, while we're not providing progress bars, you can use this: http://www.feath.com/AFB/meter.php
Note: It does not update itself, it's just a meter graphic you can put on your site or in your post.

When do sign-ups begin and end?
Sign-ups for the clubs will begin on December 10th. Sign-ups do not end during the year, since the yearly goal is what determines a winner. EDIT: Sign-ups will remain open for another few months.

When do sessions end?
Your writing for the month must be sent to the club president no later than 11:59 pm on the 30th or 31st of each month. Your total writing for the year must be emailed to the NaNoWriYe admins no later than 11:59 PM on December 31st, 2006.

I can't stay logged into the forums/I can't log out of the forums.
Try deleting your cookies. Then log back in. If that doesn't work, drop us an email at admins@nanowriye.com.

So, where do I sign up?
Register at the forums. On December 10th, email your club preference to admins@nanowriye.com

Wait, you didn't answer my question!
Drop us a line at: admins@nanowriye.com, or feel free to ask in on the forums. You can also IM the admins:

Becky- Amidalanut

More about these godforsaken clubs

Alrighty everyone,

The club approach is new this year, so it will take some ironing out, but here is how we envision it working:

1) Starting December 10th, everyone will sign up for a club according to the number of words they want to write during the year. If you want to write between 1 million and 2 million words, you would join the 1 million club. Round down.

2) You apply to the club by sending an email with the subject "Joining Club _____ (replacing the _____ with the club you are joining) to admins@nanowriye.com In the body of the email include:

Username on the forums
Individual word count goal for the year

3) You will recieve a confirmation email from your club president (chosen by the admin team) with the password to the clubhouse (your club forum). The forums will be locked starting December 10th.

4) As a club, you will select club colors and design a club logo. These will be used to decorate the Club Page that your president will create with all of your screen names, and your individual word count goal.

5) At the end of every month, you will email all that you have written to your club president for verification. It will be counted and then deleted from our hard drives and will never be read by any human eyes.

6) The club president will determine what percentage of their group reached their monthly goals (the yearly goal divided by 12). They will then report this total to the admin team.

7) The admin team will update the news fader on the 1st of every month with the current club standings (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and so forth) and will post the current results in The Daily Grind.

8) At the end of the year, every participant will email all of their writing for the year to the admin team. It will be verified, and those who have met their goals will recieve winners certificates.

The Current Club List

50k
100k
250K
500k
1 million
2 million
3 million
Above and Beyond (3 million+)

The official club list will be posted in the Daily Grind on December 10th. If you would like to see more clubs, email your request to admins@nanowriye.com

More Info on Clubs

This year, instead of having a disgustingly difficult system of scheduling, we have decided to have clubs. Each member may join only one club per year. The clubs are as follows.

The 100,000 Club
The 250,000 Club
The 500,000 Club
The One Million Club
The Two Million Club
The Three Million Club
The Above and Beyond Club

The "club" you join is the total word count you are aiming for. Each Club has a lounge, and word counts will be verified monthly.

More info will be coming soon on the Clubs.

-Becky
WriYe 06 Admin
